Javelinas is a new chamber ensemble, which aims to redefine boundaries of contemporary chamber music by inclusion of improvised interpolations and use of extended techniques and sonic texture transcending a traditional role of the instruments involved.

Sonorandom came about as a response to an immediate need for a recording material, as a part of audition process for M-prize chamber competition in Michigan. Quite appropriately, the music creation also coincided with an inception of Javelinas, a chamber ensemble founded by percussionist Jacob Ransom and pianist Jakub Rojek. The music was written roughly in 48hour period, in which there was no time to really dive into a multi-faceted compositional approach and give it the time to grow. It was simply an exercise in trying to write a functional (in the performance) piece and which could serve as a platform for improvisation. Improvisation, indeed, became central to the development of the percussion part, which is in part created on the spot by a percussionist. The music was intended to be developed improvisationally as it is central to our conception of music making and concept of this ensemble.
